Analysis of Indexing Data to Support Editorial Strategy Development

This 2014 Data Harmony User Group meeting (DHUG) client presentation is by Helen Atkins, an editor from the Public Library of Science (PLoS). Helen illustrates how her team has approached supporting key decision-making through analysis of historic indexing data.

This instance of Data Harmony software implementation enables PLoS to provide data and analyses of coverage to editorial teams in order to confirm their scopes, make informed decisions about future opportunities for expansion, or determine why some library areas are becoming less popular.

The 2013 project undertaken with Access Innovations’ help has provided baseline data showing areas of solid strength over the years, as well as emerging areas of growth. Such work has been done for all PLoS journals, but this session concentrates on presenting data for PLOS ONE.
