MAIQueryâ„¢

MAIQuery enhances search engine performance by using the uniquely tuned rule base of a taxonomy to identify documents most relevant to the user's search word or phrase.

The rule base, created with Data Harmony's M.A.I. (Machine Aided Indexer), is used to associate the search word with the most appropriate indexing term from the business thesaurus or controlled vocabulary.

If the query words entered are "quarterly financials," but the collection is indexed with the term "interim results," MAIQuery locates the rule that identifies "quarterly financials" with the indexing term and passes "interim results" to the search engine so it can retrieve all the documents associated with that indexing term.

If the term occurs in more than one context, MAIQuery allows the user to choose the appropriate one. "Paper" can mean a white paper expanding understanding of a concept, or it can mean stock for the laser printer. "Environment" can represent a computer's operating system, the socio-political characteristics of a workplace, or the inter-related natural conditions of the earth. MAIQuery expands the search to clarify "workplace environment," "natural environment," and other combinations that occur in your M.A.I. rule base and then interacts with the search engine to retrieve a list of document matches.

MAIQuery is designed to be integrated with a content management or portal search engine. The search engine can show the number of indexed documents that will be returned using a particular term. MAIQuery can also display the full term record for an indexing term. If the number of documents to be returned is inadequate, the user can choose a broader term or a related term to use for the search.

It is recommended that a full text search option be available as well, just in case the query word isn't found in the MAI rule base. In this case, the search log that is produced can be reviewed by the thesaurus manager for words that should be added as terms, synonyms, or rules to the taxonomy.

MAIQuery is an add-on to MAIstro, Data Harmony's combined Thesaurus Master and Machine Aided Indexer.
