Author Submission System

Data Harmony's Author Submission System provides authors with the tools to submit work for publication with all required metadata and in XML format.

An interface with Data Harmony suggests subject terms from the organization's thesaurus for subject indexing. Authors select the most appropriate to be saved with the submission and can make suggestions for other indexing terms. The suggestions are stored in a separate field to be included when published or not. The suggestions can be valuable for the thesaurus manager in keeping the thesaurus up-to-date.

Displayed as a Web form, the standard fields include Affiliation, contact information for each author, Abstract, References, and Footnotes. Separate fields for the body content support image and equation insertion, HTML formatting, and Unicode character encoding. Any field can be set to require an entry and fields can be validated for the data type expected, for instance a date or number. Data entered is screened for any entry that might cause damage to the server, and characters such as the ampersand are translated to code valid in XML.

A submission number is assigned, or a field for a previously assigned identification can be added and validated. Custom fields to capture other required information can be added with drop-down pick lists or free text entry.

The entire submission is displayed for the author as an HTML page with the ability for the author to edit to add data or correct the original entries. When finished, the submission is stored in XML format using tags that allow easy integration into the organization's publishing workflow.
